Regional Training Center Ampara

The centre was established on 01.07.2013 at the address D25, New Town, Ampara, centered to Ampara district of the Eastern Province. This regional centre was established with the aim of bringing higher education opportunities that are limited to the capital to remote areas.

The centre is run in a government quarters owned by the Ampara District Secretariat. The centre consists of 02 office rooms, a small lecture hall arranged to seat 30 students. Since the establishment of the centre in 2014, 28 long-term diploma courses have been conducted and 1083 students have been trained. These courses were implemented mainly in the districts of Ampara, Monaragala, Batticaloa, where also 8200 people were served under short term training programs/awareness etc.

The main objective of establishing this centre is to expand the education, Training and Research opportunities in the field of social development which was limited to Colombo District earlier. The vision of this centre is to a centre of excellence, in the Eastern Province in Social Work Education, Training and Research and to enhance human resources for social development through the preparation of competent manpower in social work at all levels, generate and disseminate new knowledge and technologies for social work practice, provide specialized services for social welfare and social development in Eastern Province.
