Regional Training Center Ranna

This regional centre was established with the aim of bringing higher education opportunities that are limited to the capital to remote areas.

The Regional Centre for Social Work, Training, Research and Field Learning at Ranna was ceremoniously opened on 05^th November 2014 by Hon. Felix Perera M.P., Minister of Social Services with the invitation of Mrs. Emelda Sukumar, Chairperson Governing Council NISD/Secretary, Ministry of Social Services and Dr. Riddley Jayasinghe, Director General, NISD at Sri Ananda Himi Place, Adi Seeyapara, Ranna, Tangalle.

The main objective of establishing this centre was to be a centre of excellence, nationally and globally in Social Work Education, Training and Research and to enhance human resources for social development through the preparation of competent manpower in social work at all levels, generate and disseminate new knowledge and technologies for social work practice, provide specialized services for social welfare and social development in Southern Province.

The centre was started by taking over a building that belonged to the Hambantota District Secretariat. In the main building, there are 02 lecture halls that can seat 50 students, a small auditorium, a kitchen and a dining room, and 05 rooms that can provide residential facilities. There is also a separate 4-room house in the centre land that can be occupied after initial renovations.

Since its inception, the centre has conducted courses on Elderly Care, Women Empowerment and Diploma Course on Counselling.
