We are delighted to introduce the Thalawa Regional Centre, a prominent establishment by the National Institute of Social Development, strategically located in Thalawa DS Division, Anuradhapura District. This center, initiated with a profound vision, aims to contribute significantly to the social development landscape.

Foundation: On 26th February 2002, Hon. Chandrika Bandaranaike, the President of Sri Lanka, laid the foundation stone of the Thalawa Regional Centre. This momentous occasion, advised by Berty Premalal Dissanayake, MP Anuradhapura District, and Minister of Social Services, featured the participation of Prof. K.B. Rathnayake, Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. The establishment was officially declared open by Hon. Raweendra Samaraweera, Minister of Social Welfare, on 31st March 2002.

Land Acquisition: Initially, 32 acres and 2.8 perches of land were acquired on 10th November 1999. However, this was later reduced to 10 acres due to various considerations. The land was obtained through a long-term deed from the Division Secretariat.

Traning programs

Supervision of field studies for students enrolled in Social Work Degree Courses and Diploma Courses.

Provides Facilities

Provision of lecture hall facilities for external institutions.

Coordination Activities

Implementation and coordination of regional activities assigned by the National Institute of Social Development, Department of Social Work, Department of Sociology, Department of Psychology and Counselling and Department of Anthropology and Gerontology.
